Its strategic position, with its view over a vast area, and its natural advantages have made this place attractive since prehistoric times. The plateau on which the fortress stands has revealed archaeological evidence of settlement from the earliest times - Neolithic, Bronze Age, Dacian and Roman, and especially the Middle Ages.
The FELDIOARA CASTLE is a national historical monument class A (LMI code BV-II-a-A-11695), being among the most important medieval Saxon fortifications in Southern Transylvania. The restoration project started in 2012, when the feasibility and design studies were drawn up. The restoration works were financed by the County Council of Brasov and carried out by SC Euras SRL, Satu Mare. The enclosure walls and the four towers (north, south, east, west) were restored, as well as the protective Zwinger wall. The original Teutonic fortifications have been completely preserved. The remains of the chapel and the Cistercian monastery have been highlighted in the inner courtyard by marking the ground level. The fountain was rebuilt and a viewing area over the Barsa region was created on the watchtower wall. Underpinning, grouting and consolidation works were carried out in parallel with other forms of conservation for the old masonry.
